Overview

The Services vertical aims to develop a comprehensive growth strategy for India’s tertiary sector as part of the vision “Viksit Bharat @ 2047”, to steer India towards a developed nation status. It adopts a holistic approach through multi-dimensional analysis at both the economy-wide and sector-specific level from the perspective of value added/output, employment, exports, productivity, FDI among others.

The Economic Intelligence Unit aims to conducts macro monitoring of the Indian and global economies. Its objective is to provide economic insights through deep-dive research to guide policy-making.

The Services vertical and the Economic Intelligence Unit comprises a team of lawyers and economists.

Core Functions
  1. Harmonise the domestic regulatory framework in the services sector:

    Identify regulatory gaps and recommend reforms to streamline the regulatory framework for the services sector in India.

  2. Improve data collection in the service sector:

    Guide line-ministries/ departments to collect more granular data and implement standardised reporting frameworks to gather accurate, real-time data for informed decision-making and strategic planning.

  3. Expand Global Capability Centres (GCCs) to Tier 2 and 3 Cities:

    Promote tie-ups and collaborations between higher educational institutions and large industries to foster the growth of GCCs in Tier 2 and 3 cities.

  4. Develop standards in services:

    Develop toolkits in collaboration with industry experts to standardize services. Undertake research studies and conduct seminars, workshops and conferences to disseminate knowledge and information.

  5. Strategy for exports and branding of services:

    Prepare a strategy for diversifying and expanding India’s services exports and branding initiatives that highlight the country's expertise in existing and emerging areas such as IT, professional and management consulting, healthcare, education, finance etc.

  6. Macro-monitoring of the Indian economy:

    Deep dive into macro and microeconomic issues concerning the Indian economy to provide adequate policy guidance.
