Overview

The Information Technology and Telecommunication Division is the nodal division of NITI Aayog, which provides strategic inputs regarding policy matters pertaining to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), and Ministry of Communications. It aims to align with its line Ministries’ missions to promote their different programs/schemes, such as Digital India, BharatNet, IndiaStack (including Aadhaar, Unified Payments Interface (UPI), DigiLocker), and create impactful roadmap for digital infrastructure, financial inclusion, and citizen-centric services nationwide. It also undertakes program like Samriddh Gram-Phygital Services as pilot initiative in select Aspirational Blocks, which aims to integrate physical infrastructure with digital services.

Core Functions
  • Evaluate and provide comments on project reports/ proposals, policy references, schemes, Cabinet/CCEA notes, SFC/EFC/PIB/PSC/DCC notes, policy submissions and participate in the Committee meetings of the line ministries.
  • Assess existing initiatives and strategies at national and sub-national levels in consultation with DMEO. Also, recommend mid-course corrections for greater impact, improve service delivery, and strengthen sectoral outcomes.
  • Draft strategic papers on digital inclusion, digital infrastructure investment, telecom growth and innovation.
  • Driving joint research initiatives and expert consultations with leading institutions and partners across digital governance, tech development, and telecom economics etc.
